Forming one the 75 parts to the Reynard the Fox series in a very rare colourway, signed and dated M.Esser 1922 in gilt to the top of the base.
This series is usually coloured in either the orange or in the puce, whereas the present piece uses both colours. This, combined with the unusually intricate decoration to the baboon's coat, suggests that Esser intended this piece to be used as a prototype, or an example displaying all decorating options in one. Signing by the modeller during this period was usually restricted to Urstück pieces.
27.5 cm high.
