Meissen Art Nouveau Group of Bears by Erich Hoesel, c.1905

A Meissen group of bears modelled by Erich Hoesel, who was one of the key modellers of animal figures during the Art Nouveau period. Decorated in high-temperature underglaze colours and remarkable that the decorator managed to successfully assign different shades of brown to each bear; other examples of this group we have noted appear to use only a single brown shade for both bears. Underglaze blue crossed swords, incised model number V 111, impressed assembler's number 144, brown painted decorator's number 5 to underside, circa 1905.
18.5 cm high, 16 cm wide and 14.5 cm deep.
