From the ballet 'Carnaval' produced by Sergei Diaghilev and performed by the Ballets Russes to the music of Robert Schumann's piano suite Carnaval. The part of Pierrot was danced by Vsevolod Meyerhold. The models for 'Carnaval' were the first to be produced by Paul Scheurich for Meissen. Early drawings and photographs of the dancers show how the models are true renditions of the characters in the ballet, including the original costume designs by Leon Bakst. Pierrot is kneeled in a pose on an oval base looking up, wearing a spotted white loose fitting costume, ruffled grey collar and black skullcap. Blue crossed swords, impressed model number D 283, impressed assembler's number 42, black painted decorator's number 27 to the base, circa 1913-23.
19 cm high.
