From the ballet 'Carnaval' produced by Sergei Diaghilev and performed by the Ballets Russes to the music of Robert Schumann's piano suite Carnaval. The part of Estrella was danced by Ludmila Schollar. The models for 'Carnaval' were the first to be produced by Paul Scheurich for Meissen. Early drawings and photographs of the dancers show how the models are true renditions of the characters in the ballet, including the original costume designs by Leon Bakst. Estrella is stood in a pose on an oval base with chequered pattern, wearing a ruffled dress embellished with turquoise bows and painted with flowers, a turquoise and pink shawl and bonnet. Blue crossed swords, impressed model number D 285, impressed assembler's number 153, black painted decorator's number 15 to the base, circa 1913-23.
27 cm high.
