A very rare Sèvres vase ‘Saint Gratien’ of baluster form, decorated with scroll-moulded panels and acanthus leaves upon a fluted rim, heightened in a yellow enamel with darker accumulations to the pattern edges. Black printed marks, incised letters and numerals to underside.

History

One of only four made in this shape at the manufacture. The present vase is one of two vases made in 1892 described as ‘2 Vase Saint Gratien decoré fond jaune d’email P.N. Prix vente 200F’ [‘2 Saint Gratien vases decorated yellow enamel background P.N. Sale price 200F’].

Black printed marks, incised letters and numerals to underside. Small firing cracks to inside and underside from the manufacture.
