History

Erich Hoesel was one of the key modellers of animal figures during the Art Nouveau period.  It is remarkable that the decorator managed to successfully assign different shades of brown to each bear; other examples of this group we have noted appear to use only a single brown shade for both bears.

Marked with blue crossed swords on an unglazed base, incised model number V 111, impressed assembler’s number 144, brown painted decorator’s number 5 to underside.
