Bing & Grøndahl seascape vase

Jo Hahn Locher — circa 1915
Sold

Unique and experimental in its design, the body of the vase is applied with a black-grey crystalline glaze in the form of an abstract fruiting leafy branch, with a smaller example on the reverse. The crystalline glaze has been inlaid with silver wire to create veins and outlines. The designs sit on a on the white glazed body which has been moulded with types of seaweed floating underwater. Very thickly potted and therefore heavy for its height.

Underglaze blue and green B&G marks, No. 578 and artist’s monogram in darker underglaze blue, all to the underside of the base.
