Meissen Figure of the Piping Drummer from the 'Cris de Paris', c.1935



A well modelled figure of the 'Piping Drummer' from the series of 35 figures based on the drawings of Cristophe Huet known as 'Cris de Paris' (Cries of Paris) of street traders and characters. He is holding a drumstick in one hand to beat the drum to his side and a musical pipe in the other, brightly decorated throughout. Underglaze blue crossed swords to base, c.1935.
These figures were originally modelled by P.Reinicke under the guidance of J.J.Kaendler around 1755.
14.5 cm (5.75 inches) high.
